The Tejas Tattler

November 1998

Message from the Prez...

Only 54 shopping days left until Christmas!!!

It really amazes me how much earlier stores start putting out Christmas stuff. I remember a time when Christmas things were not put out until after Thanksgiving. Now it's out by the first of October! Christmas has become so commercialized. Not only that, but the Christmas "shopping craze" has overshadowed another important day Thanksgiving. President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the fourth Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day. A day for the whole nation to pause and give thanks for the many blessings that have been bestowed upon this country. I know that I for one take a lot of things for granted - my family, my home, my friends, my freedom, etc. And sometimes I focus on the problems in my life instead of the wonderful blessings that are all around me. So on this Thanksgiving, let's don't worry about where we will shop and which sales we will hit. Instead, let us join together to pause and give thanks for the many blessings in our lives.

Keep on smiling!

Ron "Rocco" Martin

We’re Wired!

Come and visit the Tejas Klown Club on the Internet. While it’s still very simple, we do have a web page up now, where you can get the latest issues of the Tejas Tattler. We’ll also be posting information regarding the convention, our calendar, and links to other good clowning resources.

Just surf on over to http://tejasklowns.freeservers.com.

Christmas !!!

Christmas is coming, folks. And with it, our turn to payback our hosts for their generosity in allowing us the use of their facility. That’s right, it’s time for our annual Christmas show. This year, it will be held, of course, at Galloway Avenue Baptist Church, on Tuesday, December 1st, at 7pm.

And to get ready for the show, we’ll be putting it together at the November meeting on November 3rd. So come with you skit ideas, jokes, tricks and other gags for our show. There is room for everyone!

And if you can’t be at the November meeting, but would like to help with the show, let Rocco or Spatz know - the numbers are on the back page of the newsletter.

’98 Convention Wrap-Up

October 1st to the 4th – Wichita Falls. Flower Power takes on a whole new meaning. And thanks to the clowns of the Wichita Falls Clown Arounds, a fun convention was enjoyed by all the TCA members who attended.

It gave those of us from Tejas, as the host of the next convention, a chance to closely watch and take notes at the ends and outs of a convention. Things that went well. Things that can be done differently. A chance to see competitions done in a different format. A chance to avoid ahead of time potential headaches. A greater appreciation for what we are getting ourselves into! A time to get feedback ahead of time for what TCA members would like to see at our convention, rather than after it’s over. And mostly, a chance to renew old friendships, and discover new ones.

I’m glad I went…

’99 Convention Up-Date

Does the number 12 hold any significance to you? 12 months during the year… 12 disciples… 12 buttons on a push button phone…

And more importantly, we have 12 registrations to our convention for next year all ready! Registration is only $65 until January 1, when it goes up to $70. Hurry and send yours in and beat the Christmas rush!

More and more is happening as me close up this year, and head into 1999. The roof is going up on the Hampton Inns, as are the touches to Rodeo Center. Work is underway to enclose the rodeo arena itself. And the Convention committees are already working on the line up of instructors and vendors.
